"Growing up with two famous warriors and leaders as moms left me with some pretty big shoes to fill, and a race against my sisters to fill them. But I always wanted to live up to their expectations. I wanted to make myself worthy of one day fighting alongside the great General Amaya."
— Amaya's eldest son, Desang Rein'soleil, on his mother.

Amaya Rein'soleil was a human female general hailing from Kelaren in the Duun'zuun Universe, and supreme commander of the armies of the Kingdom of Katolis prior to the formation of the Kelareni Stellar Empire, in which she took the rank of General of the Combined Kelareni Armies. Despite being born deaf, she has grown accustomed to it and learned to fight better than most other warriors in duels and hand-to-hand combat and is considered widely as a brilliant tactician. Related through blood and marriage to the two major royal families of Kelaren, she is the aunt of Callum and Ezran Pupliano, brother-in-law of Ezran's father, the late king Harrow, and wife of Janai Rein'soleil, queen of the sunfire elves.

Few have come to regard her deafness as a disability, and those who have were quickly proven wrong by a display of her skill in battle. She has proven her worth to the Alliance of Civilizations in the field of combat, fighting against Axis of Empires remnants during the Duun'zuun Cordium War, against her own treasonous grandnephew during his attempted coup, and against the last holdouts of the Combine Empire in the Jericho Prime Campaign.

As an adept warrior, she was able to effectively battle in most environments, such as tundra, urban environments, and desolate ruins, as well as fight in a pressurized suit. Unlike several officers of her level of rank, Amaya prefers to fight on the front lines of combat with the troops she commands.

Personality and traits[]

Amaya is considered incredibly compassionate, caring for the lives of all under her command as well as her relatives, not just due to their nobility standing and her sworn duty to defend them, but because she deeply cares for them. She is generally distrustful of new strangers attempting to get close to the royal family, but that has enabled her to prevent threats from ever reaching them, though in cases such as that of Rayla Silhain, she was able to eventually trust them and regard them as extended family.

Amaya was not xenophobic towards the elves of Kelaren, but due to the tense relationships at the time between elves and humans, was automatically hostile towards elves. However, as tensions eased, she came to relax her anger towards elves, and even come to see them as barely different from humans, even going so far as to marry one, further bridging the two peoples.

Amaya is lesbian and is married to the sunfire elf Janai Rein'soleil, the Sun Queen. After the two had children, Amaya worked to train her son and daughters to be great warriors, and her children viewed her as a role model and tried to live up to her in their actions and abilities. Amaya is a brilliant military tactician, and unlike most officers of her rank level, prefers to directly fight on the battlefield alongside the troops she commands.

Skills and abilities[]

Communications[]

General Amaya is deaf, and as such, does not sense what is around her through sound, which is especially concerning in combat. However, she has learned to detect things she cannot see through other methods, such as creaks and vibrations on solid surfaces. Her other senses have also become more developed to compensate for a lack of hearing.

Born deaf, Amaya never learned how to speak, and exclusively communicates through sign language. Prior to the formation of the Kelareni Stellar Empire, Amaya relied on her close friend Gren Traudrice to translate for her so others who did not understand sign language could understand her, though most of her close friends and family were able to understand sign language. Amaya can also read lips, but with some difficulty.

Following the formation of the Kelareni Stellar Empire, Alliance engineers gave Amaya a necklace with a communications device kept in the pendant, which senses her hand gestures for sign language and produced a voice designed to sound as close as possible to her real voice that translates what she says so she no longer needs a translator.

Combat skills[]

Despite being deaf, Amaya is an extremely capable fighter, and capable of beating other warriors with all five senses in melee combat, and these include incredibly powerful warriors such as Moonshadow Elf assassins, magically and cybernetically enhanced humans, Combine soldiers, and even her own grandnephew, Tarak Pupliano, a human-elf hybrid and adept duelist.

Amaya usually fights with a specialized longsword and shield, custom-forged just for her and one-of-a-kind. However, she uses her shield most frequently, and as an offensive weapon, used to bash and stun enemies, disarm duelists, catch and shatter metal weapons, and sometimes even impale hostiles. The shield is extremely lightweight, allowing her to move with ease, but still hits with tremendous force and blocks most attacks (thanks mostly to Alliance modifications).

Amaya is also incredibly skilled in unarmed hand-to-hand combat, and fluent in several fighting styles. So long as she can see her enemy, she is usually able to predict their movements and counter them, ending most fights in moments. Her armor, following Alliance upgrades, is impervious to all kinds of small arms kinetic, projectile, and energy fire, as well as most high-caliber ammunition types. Her armor has also been equipped with a retractable pressurized helmet since the Jericho Prime Campaign, which allows her to fight in polluted environments or underwater and in vacuum (though the last two are considerably more difficult).
