When Crynyd was killed during the battle in a suicide run to destroy the Super Star Destroyer Executor. The battle ended soon after, seeing the destruction of the Death Star and death of Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine.

Biography[]

Arvel Crynyd was a male human who flew as a Z-95 Headhunter pilot for a Thyferran bacta cartel before joining the Alliance to Restore the Republic. With the New Republic estblished and joined the Alliance of Nations, he fought in the Viau Galactic Civil War, a galaxy-wide conflict between the New Republic and the Galactic Empire for centuries, including the First Multiverse War that has expanded to many universes. Holding the rank of commander, Crynyd flew as a pilot in Green Squadron, operating an RZ-1 A-wing interceptor In 786 ABY (2190 N.E.), after the Bothan Spynet discovered that Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine, including several leaders of the Axis of Empires would be aboard the second Death Star to oversee its construction, the Allied Council determined that launching an immediate assault on the space station would be their only chance to cripple the Galactic Empire and most of the Axis states to turn the tides of the war to the Alliance's favour. Crynyd led his squadron into the fleet of Axis starships with the objective of disabling their cannons on Imperial-I Star Destroyer, thereby allowing Home One and the Alliance Fleet through to the Super Star Destroyer Executor. At the climax of the battle, he was leading a strafing run of key locations on the Executor where he attempted to perform and took out several turbolasers before point-blank fire struck the left side of his A-wing, sending it into a spin. Knowing that his fighter was critically damaged, Crynyd managed to regain enough control of his starfighter to sacrifice himself as he flew it into the unshielded bridge of Executor. The wedge shaped fighter penetrated the bridge and its large fuel reserve ignited in a fireball that annihilated the command tower, killing Crynyd, Admiral Piett and the entire bridge crew instantly. With control lost, and in the middle of a battle maneuver, the mighty warship crashed into the second Death Star.

Legacy[]

After his death, Crynyd was posthumously awarded the Medal of Alderaan a medal of bravery, which was one of the New Republic's most prestigious honors.r to the Kalidor Crescent, for his actions during the Great Battle of Endor. which was one of the New Republic's most prestigious honors. In addition to this, a new award for acts of conspicuous bravery during space-to-space fighting was created to honor him, known as the Crynyd Award. An Imperial-class Star Destroyer captured at the planet Elaaden was also renamed Crynyd in his memory.

Personality and Traits[]

Crynyd was a human male with brown eyes and light skin. Being a veteran pilot and instructor, Crynyd spent more time in an A-wing than anyone else in the Alliance Starfighter Corps. He praised the starfighter and maintained the notion that skilled A-wing pilots could easily outfly the TIE interceptor—the Imperial counterpart to the A-wing. Having also recognized that the lightly shielded A-wings couldn't stand up to Imperial-class Star Destroyers, Crynyd pushed them into reconnaissance and escort missions where speed meant strength. He was also brave and dedicated to the Alliance cause to the extent that he was willing to sacrifice his life for it, crashing his crippled starfighter into the Executor.
