The Ciu'ril universe is a universe within the great multiverse. In this universe, the United States of America, shortly after losing the Cold War, became extremely far-right theocratic Christian Supremacists, dubbed the Redemptionists, who blamed other religious groups and the left for their loss. supporters in the government outvoted the Democrat and few Republican opposition that stated it defied the constitution.
The far-right Republican Christians instigated a Second American Revolution in 1994 (2380 NE), where the Redemptionist Movement rose up and completely overthrew the American government. The fighting ended with the establishment of the extremist right theocratic Christian Republics of America. Their regime lasted for nine years before the beginning of a Second American Civil War with Constitutionalist Americans rising up to return America to its past state.
History[]
Cold War[]
The Red Advantage[]
Much of world history on Ciu'ril Earth proceeded as normal until the early 1960s, in which the Cold War started to turn in favor of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, and against the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The advantage began in the mid-60s, when USSR General Secretary Nikita Khrushchev was ousted from the government by his peers in a party coup for his role in the Cuban Missile Crisis, which was almost disastrous in its effects. His successor would not be Leonid Brezhnev, but Georgy Malenkov, the former Premier of the Soviet Union.
Malenkov won his way back into government by riding off his anti-Khrushchev stance and promising a better Union through reforms. The reforms he initiated in office were akin to those of the People's Republic of China. Malenkov's non-hardliner policies proved to be better for the Soviet economy and political stability. Much of the Warsaw Pact was urged to follow and would. The reforms strengthened the Soviet military, allowing it to stay on parr with the militaries of NATO, embracing modern technology and warfare tactics to forget the costly Human wave tactics of yesteryear wars.
On the other side of the scale was the sinking United States. In the 1964 Presidential Election, conservative Republican senator Barry Goldwater won the presidency: a turning point that proved disastrous for progressivism in America and ultimately its standing in the Cold War. His response to the Civil Rights movement was incredibly violent and made the 60s a tumultuous time in America. Alongside that, Goldwater was extremely aggressive towards the ongoing Vietnam War, and his decisions as Commander-in-Chief indirectly led to the deaths of 168,000 more American troops than died in most universes' Vietnam Wars.
His popularity declined from his radicalism, and on April 2nd, 1968, Goldwater was assassinated by a sniper's bullet while touring Detroit to give a speech against the Civil Rights Movement. His death was one of over a dozen domestic American political assassinations of that decade, furthering the chaos and instability of the period. These events earned the decade the nickname "bloody sixties."
His death would be a tragedy, but one quickly glazed over into the 1970s. In 1969, Neil Armstrong won the space race for the US by becoming the first human to walk on Earth's moon, Luna, sixteen months before the Soviets were able to land their own craft there. Emboldened by victory and riding high on a new Democrat president, the turn of the Cold War shifted for much of the 1970s, and things seemed hopeful. The prosperity would not last into the 80s, however. The US tumbled hard in the mid-seventies for a number of reasons, and though the decline leveled out, it continued into the eighties right up until the Cold War's shameful end.
Last Nail[]
After a series of complex political events, the Berlin Wall was torn down, but not by West Germany. East German civilians stormed Berlin and took the government hostage. The situation turned disastrous when the United States attempted a rescue of the West German Prime Minister. During their infiltration, they were discovered, and in the chaos of the shootout with armed captors, Navy SEALs accidentally shot the Prime Minister and were forced to abandon the mission with numerous casualties. The political fallout was disastrous, and with East Germany asserting itself over the west of the country, the Cold War came to a sudden close.
Without Germany and through political demands, NATO was dissolved, and the European Union was instead reformed into a defensive pact. The United States was not included, ousted for their inadvertent triggering of the event. Instead of being forced to reform their government like in other universes, they were instead made to pay and exorbitant amount of money to the Warsaw Pact in order to compensate them for their economic losses from Cold War spending.
Second American Revolution[]
The American people ended the war not with pride and celebration, but defeat. To appease the demands of compensation from the Soviet Union, the United States was forced to sell its Pacific territories to China and remove many Pacific states from its protectorate status, including Taiwan, which was immediately reannexed into the People's Republic. Alaska was also sold to the Soviet Union, and the value of Alaska's gold and oil supply almost paid off their debt. Still, it was not enough, and the US government was left to nearly bankrupt the national economy to pay the Union.
What followed was a period of hyperinflation similar to Nazi Germany after the Second Ciu'ril Earth Civil War. The inflation was reduced by bolstering of American infrastructure, but the economy settled at a permanent low. The American people were furious, and blamed US President Ronald W. Reagan (who, in this universe, was a democrat due to ) for their current state. It was at this time that Republican conversative voices gained sway in the public.
Conservative senator Freebrook D. Hollman fully embraced the extremist right stance, and blamed America's greed, lack of repentance, and far left "radicalism" for their failures in the Cold War. During the 1992 (2378 NE) Presidential elections, Hollman and his vice president candidate, Ron Vara, lost the election to democrat Bill Clinton.
However, the Redemptionist Movement would not take no for an answer, and at Hollman’s urging in a rally, over 5,000 Redemptionist supports violently stormed the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., to spot the electoral vote count. In a panic, the Speaker of the House fled for his own safety, leading to the vote to be suspended and later thrown out by Hollman. His actions were effectively a coup, but he was too widely supported and his Allie’s in government shut down any action to tell him off. He invalidated countless parts of the Constitution and federal law, making America not only a Christian state, but a theocratic one. It was documented not as a government takeover, but as a Second American Revolution, creating the Christian Republics of America.
Reign of the Christian Republics[]
Within weeks after taking over, the already fragile and unstable formerly US economy collapsed completely, throwing the new theocratic regime into a economic depression it was ill-prepared to handle. Additionally, only a quarter of the US military defected and sworn itself to the newly established Christian Republics, with much of the US military instead either creating the United States-in-Exile, originally in Japan before being brought over to Europe by the nations of the EU, or creating Constitutionalist Enclave in much of the CRA, which only heighten the obvious differences between declaring the Christian Republics and controlling the wider US, with it only having de facto control over its' base of support, that being much of the Plains States and the deep south, and where their loyalists are the strongest.
In exile, the Clinton Administration secured critical support in the European Union and coordinated plans for retaking the States and dethroning the CRA. Constitutionalist rebel bands formed all across the East Coast, and a network of hidden paths were formed to smuggle persecuted religious follows and targeted race groups to Canada and Mexico. In fear of potential invasion and purge at the hands of the CRA, both nations fortified their borders.
White Supremacist "fields of science" emerged over the few years, disturbingly similar to the Nazi Race Theory. The "Divine Righteousness Theory" said the closer you were to the white race in genetics, appearance, and blood, the closer you were to God and the higher place you received in the afterlife. African, Asian, and Hispanic-Americans were subject to second-class citizenship before having their citizenship and rights completely revoked, igniting riots in Western cities, which had high Asian and Latin populations. Slavery was relegalized and began again in the South but had a much harder time being reestablished and never reached pre-First Civil War levels in the reign of the CRA.
A group similar to Hitler's SS, the Agioi Katharistés (English: Holy Purifiers), led a regular abduction and execution operations of targeted religious and racial minorities. Rebels and anti-Redemptionist members of the US Military began coordinating with the exiled Clinton administration for a fully supported reclamation of America and reestablishment of the United States. Weapons were amassed in secret and timed sabotage events were put in place to create a lethal alpha strike against CRA forces.
Second American Civil War[]
On the morning of July 4th, 2000 (2386 NE), Bill Clinton gave a speech on the steps of the British Parliament Building, which would become famous in history as the spark that "ignited a fire in the American people to find the good in themselves," and on that day, the Second American Civil War was declared. During CRA celebrations of the Fourth of July, Constitutionalist rebels attacked and blew up CRA military bases, supply depots, factories, radio buildings, and key railways. Casualties were minimal with most of the workers and soldiers out observing the celebration, but the damage to infrastructure was incredible.
At the same time, Constitutionalist US Military forces that had been gathering around the country began targeting strategic points all over the nations to further cripple CRA capabilities. Off the East Coast, Constitutionalist naval forces merged with a major fleet of European Union warships and began moving to the American coast and battled with the much smaller CRA fleet. Air strikes hit convoys across the East to slow responses, and air battles broke out across the original thirteen states.
All of this led to a major military convergence on Washington, D.C. In a District-wide battle that lasted for months, Constitutionalist and CRA forces clashed across the city. In the final week, both the Capitol Building and the White House were seized and was once more in the hands of Constitutionalist forces, but to Clinto's dismay, Hollman key members of his staff had already fled to an underground bunker in the Midwest.
Over the next three years, fighting continued across the nation between Redemptionist forces and the Euro-American Coalition. The war also saw the first use of nuclear weapons since the Second War, with the increasingly deranged and paranoid Hollman ordering strikes on key cities to halt advancing Coalition forces. The death toll rose to several million by the end of the second year of fighting. As the fighting continued, more CRA military forces defected to the Constitutionalist army, and slowly, the Redemptionists were vanquished from the continent.
Hollman was eventually given up by his safehouse guards, which defected and cut the power to the security systems, allowing a 2,000-strong mob to storm his residence and kill him. He would be beaten to death by the rioters, who dragged his body outside and strung him up on a makeshift metal structure. His body would be taken down six hours later by Redemptionist forces, but very little was left of it by that time.
The Second Civil War was declared officially over by Clinton on the steps of Los Angeles City Hall, where the last officials of the CRA surrendered, and the Second United States of America was established. The country was crippled, and cities lay in ruins. Over 15.2 million Americans had died during the war, and a new national holiday, Cenotaph Day, commemorated the horrific amount of military and civilian casualties.
Second Chinese Civil War[]
The Soviet Union would not pressure the European Union away from supporting the Constitutionalists, as around this time, the Soviet Union was weakening subtly, having begun cracking in less obvious ways. Hardliners once against reclaimed control of the USSR and began undoing Malenkov's political and economic reforms that allowed them to win the Cold War in the first place. On top of being incredibly distracted, domestic and foreign politics-wise, The Warsaw Pact was facing its own problems as a whole entity, as China had broken into its own second civil war.
The Chinese were having their own problems during the reign of the Christian Republics. The reformist path of the People's Republic was halted and reversed, steering the nation down the opposite path. This skyrocketed tensions between the hardliners and proletariat, with the former slowly running the country into the ground. Among the list of rising tensions was the attempted invasion of Taiwan, which ended in a humiliating defeat for the People's Liberation Army with several hundred thousand casualties in botch landing operations. This humiliation heightened tensions and increased unpopularity, while China refused to stop throwing troops at Taiwan.
Hong Kong was also a major target, and while the invasion was successful, footage of massacred Hong Kong civilians was leaked across the world and China, sparking weeks of riots in Beijing that were met with military suppression.
In the mid-1990s, the Second Chinese Civil War broke out as the enemies of the PRC attempted to tear down the communist regime. This forced the USSR and the rest of the Warsaw Pact to divert their attention and resources to supporting the communist regime, and putting them in a testy position. The conflict removed their ability to threaten Europe if they aided the Constitutionalists, as their forces could not be spared from the rebellious Chinese.
China's government ultimately collapsed three months into the civil war, even with Warsaw support, after a series of unexplained explosions in Beijing claimed the lives of the Chinese government's top officials. Quickly, various military leaders of the PLA all claimed their leadership of the Chinese government, to which all others denied. This sparked a chaotic breakdown of the PLA as leaders became warlords and divided the military into various factions all vying for control. This collapsed any effective Chinese resistance to the anti-Communist forces.
Warsaw forces managed to inflict a great deal of casualties to the Chinese rebellion, but suffered heavily themselves. Taiwan itself maximized advantage in the chaos and launched an invasion of mainland China with the goal of reestablishing the former Republic of China and ousting the communist invaders. Supported by the anti-communists, the Taiwanese were able to claim Manchuria, liberate Hong Kong, and repel five attempted counterattacks entirely without foreign aid.
The conflict dragged on for the majority of the Second American Civil War, and continued two years after. Finally, the war ended with the complete dissolution of the PRC, and establishment of the Second Republic of China, a democratic semi-capitalist state.
Governments and factions[]
Christian Republics of America[]

The Christian Republics of America (CRA) were a theocratic, far-right nation and global superpower that succeeded the First United States of America. The CRA were founded in 1994 after the beginning of an anti-Constitutionalist movement among the majority of the Republican party. Through politically aggressive and eventually violent means, they fought a Second Revolution to install their regime, which succeeded in only half a year.
In their years of operation, they remade America into a state disturbingly similar to Nazi Germany. Government decisions were primarily made by extremely bitter Southern white and Christian supremacists. Their decisions undid the entire Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s and persecuted members of other religions. During a series of religious purges carried out across the states, thousands of churches, synagogues, and temples were burnt down, along with every non-Christian religious book. Over 200,000 non-Christians would be arrested, killed, or forcibly deported to "reserves" in the Midwest over the next three weeks.
The iron "holy" dictatorship ruled for nearly a decade before tensions exploded again, and a Second Civil War ignited between the Christian Republics and the Constitutionalist American rebels, supported by the European Union and secretly observed by the Alliance of Nations, which had not yet revealed itself to the universe publicly.
