The Earth Alliance is the official government of Bab'lonin Earth and its colonies from the Bab'lonin Universe were a major galactic power during the 23rd Century Bab'lonin. The Earth Alliance is a multi-tiered democratic republic, governed as a whole through a balance of power between a regionally elected representative body called the Senate, a President who is elected by the Alliance population as a whole, and a Judicial branch. Both the Senate and the President have their offices in the Earth Alliance capitol, which is known as Earthdome. Earthdome is located on their version of Earth in the city of Geneva, Switzerland.

The Earth Alliance was for the moment under the control of a Morgan Clark who became a dictator and started a civil war within the EA until it was liberated by the rebels. When the Earth Alliance joined the Interstellar Alliance, they were one of the major powers to support the Alliance of Nations as a member state

History[]

Early History[]

The Earth Alliance was founded in 1295 NE (2085 Bab'lonin) by the countries of Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, The Netherlands, Japan, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United States in the aftermath of World War III. The founding nations also made great efforts in colonizing space by founding small scientific colonies on Mars in 2101 and later the first full scale civilian Mars colony in 2169.

In the mid-22nd century, first contact was made between the Earth Alliance and the Centauri Republic to prove that life existed beyond their solar system. The Centauri previously believed Earth was a lost colony known as Beta V and attempted to convince the inhabitants of this belief until they looked into the DNA to prove the two were completely different species despite their physical similarities, the Centauri gave the Earth Alliance access to their technology in exchange for some trade agreements. Initially the Earth Alliance used Centauri jumpgates but soon began to build its own. The Earth Alliance experienced a great deal of growth soon after the introduction of new technologies. It began to expand across multiple systems, meeting many new species.

n 1435 NE (2230), the Earth Alliance fought alongside the League of Non-Aligned Worlds against the Dilgar. A great amount of influence came to the Earth Alliance after coming to the aid of the League worlds. After defeating the Dilgar, the Earth Alliance fell into a period of aggressive expansion which continued until 1440 NE (2245).

Earth-Minbari War[]

After the war with the Dilgar, the Earth Alliance continued to expand until the year 2245, when first contact was made with the Minbari, in which a cultural misunderstanding ended in disaster. Misinterpreting a sign of respect for a hostile act, an Earthforce ship EAS Prometheus by Captain Michael Jankowski, opened fire on a Minbari cruiser, inadvertently killing several Minbari, including their leader Dukhat unleashing a war which raged on for almost three years until mankind was beaten back to its home solar system. The last battle of the war was the Battle of the Line, where on the verge of total victory over the Earth Alliance, the Minbari abruptly surrendered under mysterious circumstances.

A planetary draft was instituted during the war between both sides. After the war, Earthforce undertook a massive research and rebuilding program. Since the Minbari bypassed the majority of Earth's outposts and colonies and headed straight for Earth, this allowed Earth to rebuild very quickly after the war. EarthForce came out of the war much stronger than before, with new ships such as the Omega-class destroyer and later the Warlock. EarthForce after the war was obsessed with gaining new technology and being able to fight the Minbari in the event of another war, and the Minbari stealth system was broken as mentioned in Points of Departure. Another offshoot of this was the Babylon Project, which was started to prevent another war by allowing different races and cultures to work together in a neutral location toward resolving differences peacefully. With help from the Minbari and several other governments, the stations were constructed. The first three were destroyed by sabotage, and Babylon 4 disappeared mysteriously shortly after coming online. Babylon 5 was constructed and opened in 1452 NE (2257).

Despite the attempts at reaching common ground with other races, an increasing number of xenophobic groups sprouted up all over the Earth Alliance. Groups such as the Homeguard began to attack non-human aliens.

Discovery of the Multiverse[]

About some time after Babylon 5 was set up, the Earth Alliance made contact with a various group of interstellar powers who were members of the Alliance of Nations, a growing vast alliance of civilisations and humans to their surprise when they believed they were from a lost colony or pioneers. They were skeptical of their ability to travel to other dimensions and a war, The Earth Alliance president Luis Santiago wanted to open up relations with the Alliance, while most of Earth Force officers were very eager of their military technologies to Gain ahead of the other races.

Secretly aided by the Psi Corps and the Shadows, Vice President Morgan Clark devised a plan to assassinate President Santiago. In 1453 NE (2258), Santiago was killed when Earthforce One exploded at the transfer point by Io when it was presumed to have been a terrible accident. Shortly after this, Clark assumed the office of the President of the Earth Alliance.

With an increasing hand in policy, the Ministry of Peace and its enforcement arm, Nightwatch, soon began to weed out people who were not completely loyal to Clark and his administration. The Earth Alliance continued to take a turn towards an Orwellian-esque government and despite attempts to gain favour of joining the Alliance, their actions were becoming more questionable to the Allies when their agents discovered secret conspiracies and plots of the previous president was a set up by Clark to take over.

Earth Alliance-Civil War[]

General William Hague, the Chairman of the Earthforce Joint Chiefs of Staff, soon suspected a conspiracy around Santiago's death . This group soon began to expand, as many within started to become skeptical of the events surrounding the death of the President and in secret spoke with the Allies with their mutual thoughts of these conspiracies. Evidence was presented to the Earth Senate and coupled with the alien sighting at Ganymede, Clark declared martial law throughout Earth Central, citing threats to Earth security. Shortly afterwards he issued an executive order disbanding the Senate, then when the Senators refused to cooperate, his elite guard opened fire on the Senate building. Meanwhile, Hague and a number of ships rebelled and went on the run, preferably to seek asylum to the Alliance for their support.

On Bab'lonin Mars, the provisional government refused to carry out the martial law order. In response, Clark ordered the bombing of civilian targets on the Mars Colony, which in turn prompted the colonies at Proxima III and Orion VII to break away from the EA for independence. In an effort to prevent this from going public, the administration took control of the Interstellar Network News, though not before a brief stellarcast was made, telling people of the secessions before they could off the air. At the same time, an Earthforce task force was diverted to Babylon 5 with orders to arrest the command staff and put the station under the control of Nightwatch. Babylon 5 joined with Orion VII and Proxima III, declared itself an independent state. The EAS Churchill and EAS Alexander joined Babylon 5 in repelling the assault. The Churchill was almost destroyed in the engagement but was saved by the Alliance forces who came for their support, the Loyalist forces were totally outmatched by their superior firepower and eventually turned back when three Minbari warcruisers, led by Delenn aboard the White Star supported the Alliance of Nations: ships from the New Galactic Republic, the Human-Vortigaunt Federation, and United Nations Space Command supporting them.

Early in the following year, Clark ordered that Babylon 5 be added to the forbidden list for trade and travel, setting up a blockade and embargo to isolate the station from the Earth Alliance, even going so far as to declare it being illegally annexed by the Alliance of Nations. However, Babylon 5 overcame this embargo with the Allies' aid. Proxima was not so lucky; Clark ordered a complete blockade of the colony. Warships loyal to Clark surrounded the planet and opened fire on civilians trying to escape, killing thousands. Upon learning this, Sheridan decided he could not tolerate Clark remaining in office any longer, took a fleet of White Stars to Proxima with the backing of the Alliance of Nations and Rebel officers to liberated the Proxima colony. He later convinced many of the surviving ships to join the Alliance and the White Stars, quickly forming a resistance movement. As the fleet advanced, more ships would defect to Sheridan's side and join the fight against Clark.

The fleet of defecting Earth Alliance ships traveled to Bab'lonin Mars to fight an assembled Clark-loyal fleet commanded by General Robert Lefcourt. With the help of cybernetically modified telepaths, the Clark-loyal fleet of over 30 Omega-class destroyers against the HVF and the UNSC forces and were completely wiped out by their combined forces despite the efforts of their new upgrades, thus allowing Sheridan to head straight for Earth without having to fight. After this, the fleet arrived at Earth and destroyed the weapons platforms that Clark had turned towards Earth in an attempt to destroy the entire population. Of course this was not without losses, as many EA ships were destroyed by the planet defence grid. The Earth defense grid's missiles mainly targeted fighters and destroyed many Starfuries, even destroyed a Minbari fighter in a single shot and a Federation fighters. Clark committed suicide and Susanna Luchenko of the Russian Consortium was named the new President of the Earth Alliance. Shortly after this, Bab'lonin Mars was granted its independence but als gained favour of joining the Alliance of Nations.

Joining the Alliance of Nations[]

Society and Culture[]

Governmen[]

The Earth Alliance was a Multi-Tiered Democratic Federal Republic, governed as a whole through a balance of power between a regionally elected representative body called the Senate, a President who is elected by the Alliance population as a whole, and a Judicial branch. Both the Senate and the President have their offices in the Earth Alliance capitol, which is known as Earthdome. Earthdome is located on Earth in the city of Geneva, Switzerland.

The Alliance experienced severe democratic backsliding under President Morgan Clark, ultimately leading to power being consolidated in the executive branch, but this was reversed after the Earth Alliance Civil War.

EarthGov[]

The Earth Alliance Central Government, more commonly referred to as Earthgov or Earth Central, was the central government of the Earth Alliance, founded in 2085 (1280 NE) after the end of World War 3 with headquarters at Earthdome in Geneva, Switzerland.

Military[]

Earthforce[]

Earthforce is composed of three separate branches: Fleet, Marines, and Security. Flag officers from all three divisions comprise a Joint Chiefs of Staff who report directly to the President of the Earth Alliance. Personnel may transfer between divisions.

Space Corps[]

The ESC, or simply the 'Fleet' is the backbone of Earthforce, encompassing all of the space borne military assets of the Earth Alliance. Fleet officers wear a standard blue uniform with the EA Emblem on the left breast over an appropriate stat bar, with a unit patch or flight wings on the right upper shoulder and a divisional badge on the left. Pilot flight uniforms feature the owner's name over the left breast, the divisional patch on the right breast, a unit (wing) patch on the right upper shoulder and the squadron patch on the left upper shoulder. Flight-suits have a large rectangular patch over the left breast that display the pilot's name, rank and flight qualification. The duty uniform of a fleet NCO is the same as that of the officers sans the stat bar and the vertical leather strip on the tunic and in place of the divisional patch on the upper left arm is instead a unit or ship patch.

Territories[]

The Earth Alliance with the estimated population of 15 billion by 1452/2258 was a major galactic power in the the Bab'lonin. Outside its homeworld, it has heavily colonized the Bab'lonin Sol system as well as a variety of other worlds. According to ISN, by 2259 the Alliance had established dozens of outposts and colonies in fourteen different systems and when it acquired access to the Kleiner-Freeman-Vance Drive Systems after joining the Alliance, their colonies expanded.
