The confederacy of planets and moons that formed the Independent Faction was doomed from the start. Each of the outer worlds had its own form of government. They had never really worked together except trade and dealt with their own trouble in their own way.

The Independent Planets originally joined the Axis of Empires during the Crisis in Jui'uhi as one of puppet states for the Confederacy of Independent Systems and designated as a separatist faction for a few years until they revolted against them.

History[]

While leaders among the scattered outer worlds expressed their concern over the formation of the Union of Allied Planets, most did not seem to care as long as it wouldn't affect them. They were concerned with far more mundane troubles: food shortages, low medical supplies, and the 'quirks' of recently terraformed planets. It wasn't until the UAP's proclamation that it intended to extend its political control over the entire star system that the people on the outer worlds refused to accept. They came together to present a unified front of resistance. And resist they did - far more than the UAP had anticipated. They fought for their freedom and way of life harder than those drafted into the army or who carried arms in exchange for credits. What the Independents lacked in training and equipment, they made up for in spirit. But that was until they made contact with the Confederacy of Independent Systems, (oblivious of their true origins at the time) provided their support against them when the Galactic Republic would become involved as a result in 2507 (1499 NE) in which would be known as the Crisis in Jui'uhi causing the Independent Planets to become a member of the CIS, or morever a puppet state, as they now declared their sovereignty from the Alliance.

Although while they have enjoyed it at a time, the upper class received more than as they govern the planets under their control while leaving many communities to fend for themselves through hard times, becoming a boon to the mercenary trade. Former soldiers from both sides now hire out their guns to communities, security firms, and businesses who pay them to clean up their towns, fight range wars, or put down slave revolts. The CIS hired mercenaries to bring force labour to their factories on the planets they 'secured' as an exchange for their protection with a CIS governor to oversee the progress.

Defecting the CIS[]

With growing uprising and treatment by the CIS, the middle, lower class and slaves who were forced to work in their droid factories and military bases for resources began to form an open revolt such as the Persephone Uprising with the support of the Republic and grew to favour the Alliance over the Separatists.

Government[]

Independent High Command[]

Independent High Command was the military command of the military forces of the Independent Planets made up of mostly former officers from the UAP military prior to the Unification War. It was split into two commands: the  Ground Command, coordinating all ground forces, and the Naval Command, in charge of the space going vessels.

Military[]

The Browncoats Aerospace pilots, had near unchallenged control of the skies thanks to the 12th cavalry gunboats, which could slip in quick as you like and with their plasma packet cannon, open a sizable hole in the side of Alliance capital ships and then be gone before you can say “humped”.

The Browncoats Army was mostly made of men and women from the planets Hera and Shadow. Many served for the honor of defending their homes and their freedom from the perceived tyranny and so-called "civilization" of the UAP. The Browncoats were mostly a volunteer army. They were given limited ammunition, and rations. They supplemented this where they could with what they brought with them or what they took from the UAP.

Contrary to UAP propaganda, the Independents didn’t start losing the Unification War from the onset before the arrival of the CIS. While the UAP always had the edge in tech and resources, the Browncoats were smart guerrilla fighters who knew how to use the landscape to get the upper hand, even when they were hopelessly outgunned. They now adopted the use of Separatist Droids for military roles and relied on Tactical Droids for combat against the Republic but not entirely strong enough to fed against major powers beside the UAP
