Garland was a former knight of the Cornelia Kingdom until he betrayed them to join the Empire of the Heartless as one of their Warlords.
Personality and Traits[]
Garland was an arrogant and proud knight, insulting the Warriors of Light for daring to challenge him and triumphantly declaring his name and that he will defeat them, dismissing the Keyblade Warriors as a threat to the Heartless Empire. After being freed from the time loop and swore loyalty to Xehanort, served the Emperor faithfully while also to the Empress Maleficient but only by her status in respect and power. Garland relishes combat and takes great pleasure in duels with opponents who can give him a challenge. He encourages others to immerse themselves in the conflict and take joy in it as he does, showing no pity or hesitation against any opponent and declares he will not hold back, even when facing women and children like Terra and the Onion Knight.
Garland is not without compassion. He openly disapproved of the use of the Eclipse when in fact created by the ancient Malican Empire that could endanger their allies if they ever lose control. On such occasions, Garland demonstrates that he retains shades of the nobility and honor that once made him a respected knight when he stood guard to protect the Princess Mal to let her escape in the middle of the Heartless Civil War from being used as a hostage and have his life making a stand against the revived Hitt'lon Zizz'lii’s to make amends for his actions.
