Most beings in the multiverse belonged to one of two sexes, male or female. With biological and social aspects. Biological sexual differentiation was a central feature of sexual reproduction, the creation of offspring. In many humanoid species, this involved a combination of two or more individuals' genetic material.
Gender by Species[]
Humanoid[]
Many humanoid cultures had a two-sex system based around the division between male and female, or the masculine and the feminine, according to a number of minor anatomical and physiological differences such as Humans believed that females achieved maturity at a quicker rate than males. According to Siegfried Nirav Velichkov, it is one of the basic functions of the humanoid anatomy. During the Galactic Civil War Jaina Solo teased her twin brother, Jacen, about being more mature than him to lighten the mood as they discussed their futures.
Tusken Raiders had distinct gender roles that included their clothing and behavior. For instance, female Tuskens would tend to the banthas while the males fought.
Hermphradites[]
There are species with the characteristics of two or more sexes. Unlike androgynes, hermaphrodites could function as either a male or a female during sex, or undergo a functional transformation from one gender to another. Certain species such Hutts maintained one lifelong gender, most often male; however, some male Hutts would be regarded as female during a pregnancy. Hutts possessed multiple sex organs simultaneously, and they could reproduce with another Hutt or conceive a Huttlet without a partner. Rotta's father, Jabba Desilijic Tiure, was his sole parent.
More than one Gender[]
Certain cultures facilitated this bonding with some form of a wedding ceremony or other formalized partnership. species could adopt the sexual characteristics of either sex, and were classified as hermaphrodites. Other variable species, like the X'Ting, changed sexes periodically based on hormonal cycles. Some alien species had more than two sexes (the insectoid Xi'Dec had over 180 different sexes. Finally, some species, like the Filordi, were asexual, with individuals being able to reproduce on their own. The Fnessian race had a previously undocumented sex called Thos. The Rakririans also had a third sex, known as facilitator drones.
