Great Multiverse Wiki

The Golmar Earth Portal Storm Surge was the most devastating natural disaster to ever occur on Golmar Earth and first started erupting not long after the Black Mesa Incident occurred and grew increasingly more violent and chaotic in the months that followed it slowly growing out of Black Mesa and into the rest of the planet and bringing with them the teleportation of Xen flora and fauna across the entire planet which grew out of control for any national governments to contain or control ontop of the destructive nature of the storms themselves and causing untold trillions in damages to infrastructure and buildings the world over.

The Portal storms raged for just about a year on the planet until the finally died out, leaving Golmar Earth devastated and countless lives lost after the incident. With lives struggling to adjust to the post-events until five years afterwards the planet gained the attention of the inter dimensional empire known as the Combine in 2012 (6 ABMI/1350 NE).

History[]

Over the course of Six months after the Incident, the storms, along with the introduction of Xen wildlife slowly drove the majority of Golmar Earth's native flora extinct while also began to overwhelm numerous governments. Increasingly the rural areas of the planet became increasingly uninhabitable and drove hundreds of millions of people to flee to the relative safety of cities. But the strain this caused, as well as the destruction the storms themselves caused and the extreme danger that the new Xen wildlife were, collapsed nations across the world, causing even more people to flee to other parts of the planet in the hopes of escaping the chaos the storms brought. By the tenth month, the vast majority of the world's nations had collapsed completely with only the majority of the developed nations and a few developing nations still standing but now restrained to only its major cities with the countryside almost completely abandoned and its' population forced into the major cities and their metropolitan areas. By the first year of the Storm Surge, a billion people had died due to a combination of the storms, the Xen wildlife and the chaos of the collapse of numerous nations with two billion forced to flee their homes and head to the only stable areas of the planet, all of which were now under a state of martial law to prevent total collapse.

By the first year of the Storm surge, the storms themselves died now considerable compared to the early months, yet they still regularly occurred forcing what governments that remained to put their now strained resources to combat them when they happened. By this point in time, the only nations that hadn't collapsed were mostly developed nations and handful of developing nations, but all of them were under a form of marital law to better address the chaos caused by the storms. One of which was the strict enforcement of its' populations in its' major metropolitan areas, all of which was meant to deal with the new invasive species that made life in the countryside practically impossible. This also in turn meant that new apartment complexes were to be built to house the millions or tens of millions now forced to live in these now entirely cramped and overpopulated cities. The United States, for instance, place its' population (native born or the millions of Latin American refugees that came to the United States after the collapse of most of Latin America) in a total of 50 major metropolitan areas while leaving the rest of the nation under strict military control but most of the time the military rarely left the metropolitan safe zones, and similar patterns occurred with other developed or developing nations that survived, with most of its' resources limited to only the major metropolitan areas and building them up while leaving the rest of the nation under minimal control. By the second year, a new normal had taking hold, one where rationing of everything, food, water, fuel, and data were the norm and the initial panic and chaos finally died down allow many of the developed nations to relax some rules and allow democratic governance to take place again, although martial law was still in place, although many developed nations had effectively became full military dictatorships in the process.

Golmar Earth remain this way until the sixth year when the Empire of the Combine Race invaded the planet and conquered in under Seven Hours but in the process put an end to the storms completely but now started a new chapter for the battered planet.

Notes[]

  • The only areas of the planet that did not have nations collapse completely were European nations, the United States, Canada, Mexico, India, China, Mongolia, Russia, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, and New Zealand, with the rest of the planet fell victim to state collapse, and even the developed areas became overwhelmed by the refugees that were fleeing the collapse of their neighbors that they also collapsed, which was the case with Israel and Singapore. And those nations that did not collapse barely did so due to them declaring marital law in their nations.
  • The chaos of the first months were something that still haunt the people of Golmar Earth that survived both the storms and the Combine's invasion, and for good reason as it was a time where extremely dangerous wildlife started appearing everywhere and violent storms could and have destroyed entire towns as they occur, ontop of that was the collapse of the majority of Earth's nations and a refugee crisis the likes of which the world had never seen before and likely won't see for millennia, with some detailing hearing or witnessing refugees being gunned down by military forces at the border just to prevent some of the refugees from entering but frequently to no avail.
  • While it took some time, a new sense of normalcy did come to those who lived in the safe zones although now the old world had firmly been destroyed, like in the United States, mass consumerism simply cease to be as resources were now limited and people couldn't eat as much food as they wanted to, nor could they drive personal vehicles, as fuel was now strictly limited to essential vehicles, like public transportation or the military broadly. Furthermore entertainment continued to exist but now more limited due to the now dangerous state of the countryside making it nearly impossible to film live action shows and what live action entertainment was made were more or less infotainment conducted by the government to inform their citizens of the dangers of the new world they now lived in. However, comics, manga, animes, animation broadly and video games saw a golden era in this timeframe as they did not need as much resources or locations to go to, leading many people to spend what disposable income they had on those entertainments just so they could have some semblance of the old world, although many of them were heavily influenced by the new state of the planet since the Portal Storms began.
  • For all case and purposes the world economy cease to be by the first year of the surge, with nearly all major corporations having collapsed and bankrupt along with the global economy collapsing completely, with only a handful of companies, mostly entertainment, surviving, and just barely at that. And because of this, every surviving government had no other choice but to take near total control over the economies of their nations, including manufactory and food production. This, along with the 20 years of brutal occupation and the total destruction of any surviving company, all but ensured that the result post-occupation economic policies of Golmar Earth would be drastically different from pre-incident Golmar Earth, although corporations as they were known before did eventually came back into existence but most private entities were some form of worker owned cooperatives then pre-incident corporation.
