Great Multiverse Wiki

A moon was a small celestial object that orbited a larger celestial object most often a planet though they could also orbit larger celestial objects such as gas giants. Moons could vary in size, atmospheric conditions, climate, indigenous life, and other such categories. Some moons were barren rocks that existed in the vacuum of space, such as Luna, in orbit around Earth, while others could be covered in lush, dense jungle, such as the fourth moon of Yavin, and Pandora of Polyphemus. The number of moons a planet had could also vary greatly. Some planets, such as Vulcan, did not have moons.

Moons varied greatly in size and physical characteristics. They ranged from small asteroid-like objects, such as Mars' moon Deimos, to planet-sized bodies with their own ecosystems, such as Andoria and Bajor's moon Jeraddo.

More massive moons may also strongly influence their primary planet, as they exert gravitational forces that are strong enough to affect the stability of the inclination of the planet's rotation axis and thereby its seasons, as was the case with Earth's moon Luna.

In some cases, moons were called worlds if they were developed and/or populated enough. Densely populated Nar Shaddaa, known as the Smugglers' Moon, orbited Nal Hutta and was covered in sprawling cityscape, not unlike the ecumenopolis Coruscant. The sentient world Zonama Sekot was considered a moon for a period of time because it masqueraded as one of 18 moons orbiting the gas giant Mobus. However, its status as a moon could vary due to its mobile nature, amongst other unique traits. Dxun orbited very closely around its parent planet, Onderon, to the point that during certain times of the year, they shared atmosphere, leading some to consider them to be like sister planets.

The visibility of a moon varied cyclically over time. A moon whose face was entirely visible from a planet was said to be a full moon. They were considered by some to be romantic) while others believed them to induce nightmares. Full moons also reflected light, making it possible to see well at night.

Characteristics[]

Moons varied wildly in characteristics ranging from Barren lifeless airless rocks to temperate habitable moons and many species throughout the Multiverse have been native to moons of planets.
