planet Khadora

A planet, commonly called a world, was a type of celestial body is a celestial body typically found in orbit around a star. Planets are typically spheroid and may have other bodies in orbit of themselves own which many scientists stated that a planet had to be large enough for its gravity to have 'cleared its orbit' by attracting all the smaller bodies in its immediate neighborhood, excluding its own satellites, such as moons, rings or artificial satellites which can include communications or defense technology or orbital facilities such as starbases and shipyards. Additionally, a planet had to have a stable shape due to its gravity, becoming a regular, rounded ellipsoid, although some bodies that were known as worlds did not have a regular shape. Over time, the definition of a planet became more complicated, as scientists wanted to exclude near-stars, wandering rogue planets, dwarf planets, 'micro' planets, companion stars in binary star systems, bodies in asteroid belts and debris fields, and other objects.

There are two basic types of planets: small solid rocky planets which may have a thin atmosphere, and gas giants which are almost entirely atmosphere. Small planet-like bodies are planetoids or dwarf planets. Still smaller bodies, which do not qualify to be named as planets, are asteroids. There are numerous classifications for planets depending on these variables. A government that controlled an entire planet was a planetary government.

Destroying a planet was possible, although it required a massive superweapon, such as a Death Star, which destroyed the planet Alderaan in the Viau Universe. It was also possible to turn a planet itself into a superweapon. or even into a artificial vehicle to move.

Overview[]

Two types of planets existed in the Multiverse: gas giants and terrestrial rocky worlds. Moons orbiting gas giants and other rocky worlds were usually not considered planets, even though they could be larger or more populated than other planets. However, Zonama Sekot was considered to be both at different time periods due to its unique mobile nature.

Depending on the tilt of its axis, a planet might have had varied seasons with changing temperatures and weather, affecting its habitability. Planets were extremely varied in terms of environmental conditions and landscape, ranging from completely oceanic, such as Manaan, Dac, and Kamino, to thick arboreal rainforests, such as Kashyyyk and Felucia. Some planets, such as Hoth, were completely frozen, while other planets, such as Nelvaan, were experiencing an ice age. Some planets, like Tuchanka, Korriban, Tatooine, Vulcan, Narn, or some variations of Mars were completely barren and desolate, covered in little more than rock and sand; others, such as Coruscant, Jericho Prime, Taris, and became an ecumenopolis, in which the entire planetary surface was covered by one gigantic city. Many planets, like Earths, Bajor, Naboo, Valia, and Corellia, contained a mix of landscapes, with various continents, oceans, and mountains.

Most life-bearing planets had primarily nitrogen- and oxygen-based Type I atmospheres, though some, such as Dorin, Rannoch, and N'chak'fah, had unique atmospheres to which their native life forms had adapted. Gas giants, planets made up of primarily gaseous layers, were rarely inhabited, though they were sometimes used for resource collection (such as the Tibanna gas operations on Bespin).

Some planets had a large collection of space debris orbiting them, referred to as "rings." These rings ranged from being thin to being expansive.
