Roman Republic (Lol)

The Roman Republic, also refereed to as Res publica Romana, or Allied Rome, is the government that governs Rome on Terra in the Lol Universe after the overthrow of the Roman Kingdom in 173 BBR (509 BCE/1503 NE). After it was discovered by Jen'thori Star Federation in 73 ABR (409 BCE/1603 NE), although it was not the first offworld race it the Romans came cross as they were recently invaded by a hostile race known as the Gistahl and helped them and other kingdoms. They made contact with the Alliance of Nations in the year 332 (officially 77 ABR/1680 NE), the Roman Republic quickly become a modern nation on Terra that took control of large potions of Terra, unifying Europe, majority of Northern Africa and Arabia under it's banner.

However, it did not underwent this peacefully, when the Republic voted to outlaw slavery and pass many reforms that created a universal voting rights for all as well as gender and racial equality, many of Lol Rome's Elite become angered by this and started an uprising against the Republic, but this uprising was short live, with the Elites' private armies still using swords and shields whereas the Republic have long since modernized it's military leading to a short but bloody battle with the private armies of Rome's Elites all wiped out with the Republic's Legion not losing a single person in the battles. The Roman Republic then became members of the Alliance of Nations to counter the Axis of Empires' Caesar's Legion and Roman Empire from the Ool Universe.

History

Early History

The Gistahl War

By 77 ABR (1680 NE) The Roman Republic for the first time fought against a race of non-humans when they first assumed to be the barbaric tribes or the Persian Empire from rumors of demons, unable to stand a chance against their superior force as they expanded their hold on the Eastern Europe and Africa with fortresses in the skies, until the surprising arrival of the dragon-like race known as the Jen’thori who came to their aide from the skies and driven the Gistahl raiders who came to Terra for the purpose of sport or enslave the humans for the planet’s resources. The Empires of the Terra with the Roman Republic supporting the Jen’thori who they have by the first 5 years of conflict saw as allies to finally beat the Gistahl to sign over a treaty to leave the star system and under the protection of the Jen’thori Star Federarion.

The Rebuild

With the war ended, the Republics senate was force to settle for the new changes and their new allies, while also considering being a protectorate under the Jen’thori Federation, many supported them and eager to learn more about them with the exposure of their science and technologies thousands of years, or more than the humans could possibly imagine. However, some who prefer the old ways wanted to take the Republic as the supreme power with the alien races out of the way. The Consul of the senate supported the Star Federation to allow the greatest of their scholars and teachers that be selected to learn to pass on what they can understand to make the Roman Republic prosper and allow their allies the same: medicine, agriculture’s, technologies and better machines to accelerate years ahead to limit the need for slaves).

Aftermath

After successfully defeating the Gistahl, only some remained on the planet, claiming small portions of territory of the Northern Europe continent, to prevent another war they barely won, the Republic accepted their new allies to train their legionaries and soldiers alongside theirs with former enemies who turned to their side. However, the Republic needed strong allies to defend themselves as a protectorate in reluctance with their armies in recovery, fear of barbaric invasions could attack their borders any time.

The majority of the Senate voted to make alliances with most kingdoms and tribes. Some however, did not accept this idea in belief they were meant to be the victors and not needing help of aliens despite so vastly out match to the Gistahl. The day of the victory became a celebration and rememberance.

The Alliance

In 30 years of development and experiencing changes since the end of the Gistahl War, small portions of the population growing use of their alien allies, adjusting to the presence of advance ships soaring through the skies but their culture remained little different but some who despite being grateful to the Jen'thori fear their presence will contaminate their way of life. In the spring of 77 ABR, (1680 NE), Jen'thori general informed them of a fleet of ships entering their solar system. The Senate feared it may have been the Gistahl making their return for another strike, but were assured I wasn't them but belonged to a different force. The ship came to their newly built star port to meet these travellers who to their surprise were not only other races, but many were human.

Having to come in contact with a more advance human civilization with technology far surpass their own and how they know of the cultures so well, the Roman Republic were among the nations of their world to greet the Alliance representatives, learning about their origins and learn that the Jen'thori were familiar with dimensional travel as well, learning heir alternate variants were thousands of years ahead of them by time and on some information to find their versions of the Roman Empire had lasted and endured for centuries but fell by corruption, only the few and the current teaser kept this as a secret from the public to ensure this knowledge does not cause panic but use it to learn any mistakes and tragedies that occur such as pursuing a more democratic society.

Expansion

With the successful expansion to other worlds after centuries of studying technologies to uplift their civilization with the aid of the nanites extended their natural lifespans to thousands years, long enough to fully grasp the knowledge of advance science to build starships, the Roman Republic were among the first alongside the Mackinawan-Tahuantinsuyuian Commonwealth, the Seleucid Empire and the Federation of Scythia, even to mark most of their sovereign claim on several planets in the Solar system for colonisation with the Lunar moon as a support for new stellar colonies and outposts. The Republic knew its counterparts and enemies would have the main advantage until they have access to Kleiner-Freeman-Vance Drive Systems and use the knowledge offered by the Alliance and fought against the Roman Empire of Ool, the Greater German Empire, and the Confederate States of America for their abuse of human and non-human rights when the Senate decreed them as enemies of the Republic and saw as barbarians.

The information of other worlds to travel was strictly for military, trade and expeditions only to prevent wasting resources to far off worlds and explore more of their universe like others, while also fear of the Combine upon hearing stories of their atrocities. But also fear the Gistahl would return to exact their vengeance and needed to be prepared for the moment should it happen again. They made contact with several races In their native universe with the guidance and assistance from the Jen’thori and the Allies, like their world, some suffer under the invasion of the old enemy and learned they were slowly trying to gain a foothold of the galaxy to enter.

By the year 489 ABR (1990 NE), the Roman Republic was one of the major super powers of Terra, alongside the New Kingdom of Egypt, Imperial Realm of China, Scythia Federation, and the Mackinawan-Tahuantinsuyuian Commonwealth

Unification of Terra

With word of the Great War finally reached its end after almost a millennium, the Romans celebrated alongside their allies. The senate came together with the other leaders of the kingdoms and empires to form a unified nation of many states for a voice to speak on their behalf to the Alliance of Civilisations.

Falmart Campaign

The Roman Republic sent a diplomat to the Eai'eei Universe to meet the opposing factions at war with each other: Saderan Empire and the Nation of Japan, Cispia Naucratia, a daughter of the ambassador showed the second prince Diabo El Caesar and princess Piña Co Lada of such wars that brought many worlds to ruin such as the Great War that lasted a 1,000 years, able to convince them to side with the Allies and Japan. The Roman Republic heard of the coup and the intentions Eai’eei Earth had to plot an invasion and were one of the many to keep a close watch on them to prevent another incident while offering to bring the Saderan Empire into a Republic after the conflict came to an end, as a protectorate of the alliance.

Society and Culture

Expansionistic and militaristic, yet egalitarian and democratic are just four words used to describe Terra's Rome and its' people. Although they abandoned the favor of a feuding society, some still clung to the old ways at the first generation given many now have extensive lifespans by the nanites. The Roman Republic is a culturally diverse nation full of many countries under its banner with mix with worshipping Roman gods, others practice other religions such as Christianity, Celtic, Islam, and Jewish faiths for example. The Republic still hold a house system of the high status, but over the centuries developed a system that if such noble misuses their status and power, they be stripped of their status and rank. Even allow the lowest level of commoners to rise up through progress of hard work and intellect.

With the influence of their alien allies, the Republic slowly grew out of favor of slavery and changed it to contract of servitude and work, people under contract must wear standard clothing to symbolize their status, if the servant is mistreated they are to report with evidence to support their claim. Those were forced were either in debt or unable to find work, or petty criminals to choose this to avoid prison or execution depending on their crimes and wear a wrist band to monitor their whereabouts.

The Romans still hold favor of games and changed some rules but still favor gladiators for combat and also for military officers to find potential soldiers, others do so for entertainment like wrestling, Olympics, and races.

At the time of joining the Alliance, the Roman Republic were eager to open trade relations with other interstellar powers.

Technology

The Romans were previously a pre-industrial civilization as were the others before the Gistahl invaded their homeworld, with the alliance of the Jen'rathi with new exposure to advance science and technology, the Romans slowly began to adapt, starting with medical science and better tools to improve their abilities to build and for agriculture's but were limited from accessing weapons at the time when still considered young by the more advance Jen'rathi.

By the 6 century (22st century NE), the Roman Republic started their development of aircrafts from experiences of other human cultures to improve their abilities to pursue advancements, yet still not a space-faring race for another several centuries or so.

Military

The Roman Republic so far has carried some of its original traditions until they adopted some of the Jen’thori and much like in past occasions they advanced it finding new ways to adapt. They have allowed many from various ethnicities, even non-humans from allied states or vassals to serve, eventually allowed women to serve so long as they are fit to serve in both physical and mental state in the same way in politics, some made a legion known as the Amazon regardless of the class after abandoning the traditions of noble houses to serve higher ranks. The Senate, and especially the Consuls elected have direct control of the various military forces and give their advise over the decisions with the officers.

While continue to the tradition of warriors among some ranks but allowed the use of technology to develop to lighten the casualties in military campaigns, they adopted advance battle suits and armor to allow the Legionaries gain an advantage over extreme environments such as zero-gravity.

In the later centuries they developed battle suits for the special ranks and named those in honor of the legionaries that have served the Republic. Even named their navy and space-faring vessels in their honor and class vessels after the gods such as the Jupiter-Class Dreadnaught

Notes

• Because of the advances in technology, Lol Rome eventually just abolish its' use of slavery entirely, although not without having a minor uprising from its' increasingly irrelevant social and government elite and reactionaries.
• While still a heavily militarized and expansionistic nation, Terra's Roman Republic is decidedly not a plutocratic oligarchy like it is on various Earths or early Ool Earth Roman Empire, being a legitimate democratic republic, although, funnily enough it did borrow concepts like federalism from nations like the United States which itself was, in part, based off of Rome, the irony of such is certainly not lost on most people.
• Even with Terra's abandonment of slavery and other forms of entertainment being widespread, Lol Rome is still has gladiator games that dominate their entertainment, although they aren't as deadly as it use to be as regulations have been put into place for them but they are still popular regardless.
• Like with Rome of any timeline, even its' Ool counterpart, Lol Rome still have a fairly hands off approach to the numerous cultures found within their territories, although they did ensure that the peoples of those lands knew how to speak, write and read Latin (or, in cases of species being unable to speak the language due to physical limitations understand, write and read Latin) with the same level of proficiency as a native born Roman typically through the use of numerous policies, but ultimately any territories they gain that isn't unsettled before hand will eventually have its' culture be absorbed into Roman culture, although not without adding new practices, customs and beliefs beforehand.
• Lol Rome considers everyone in their newly acquired territories citizens of the Roman Republic, and anyone who immigrants to the nation Roman the second they either cross the border or step off a ship (although there are limits to this). However, there is still paper work to be done before hand, usually in the form of the government taking the people into account, have that person take a test to determine how much Latin they know, as well as simple background checks for any possible crimes the people might have done if they are a immigrant, effectively creating two types of citizens, residential citizens and full citizens, with the only differences between the two is the latter can vote in Republic elections while the former can't but it is understood that the status of residential citizen is a temporary one before the paperwork is finalized and they are made into full citizens.
