The Sentient Equality Act of 1923 NE, also referred to as the Artificial Intelligence Accords, is a landmark civil rights, sentient rights, AI rights and labor law in the Alliance of Nations passed by the Allied Council which made all Androids, Droids, Robots, Synths, and other forms of Artificial Intelligences equal before the eyes of Alliance law and prohibits any and all forms of slavery involving them. Furthermore, All synthetic individuals are given the same civil rights as their organic counterparts and prohibits public and private institutions from infringing on these rights. The act is often regarded as one of the Alliance most significant legislative achievements in its' history, often ranked among other acts of equal significant.
By the time of the act's passage, more then half of the Alliance's memberstates already had AI rights passed in their respected regions of space, among them being the United Federation of Planets, Pol United States, New Galactic Republic, Galactic Coalition of Species, and the United Commonwealths of Worlds, with the UFP, New Republic, Pol United States, and GCS leading the charge to get the Council to pass a Alliance-wide bill. Although it did face opposition from the Alliance's more conservative and otherwise Anti-AI members like the Imperium of Man and the inhabitants of Tii’uui Universe, but in the end they failed to prevent its' passage, but it did take thirteen years before the Allied Council could pass the act in full.
While the Alliance is now subject to the laws completely, some memberstates have figured out ways to get around them and continue to subjugate AIs for centuries to come, much to the increasing frustration of most of the Alliance and eventually became one of many reasons for the eventually Alliance Civil War that began in 2753 NE.
