- After The End: Golmar Earth had it rough in this setting as it went through years of portal storms and off-world alien wildlife being teleported to the planet which effectively destroyed Earth's ecosystem then the Combines invaded, conquer it in under seven hours, and slowly stripped the planet of its' resources in the twenty years between that and the uprising. Suffice to say it took some time for Golmar to recovery from the events of the early 21st century of its' calendar, even with the aid of numerous alternate versions of Earth and countless other Space-faring civilizations, and that does not even addressing just how much those events have drastically affected the society and culture of Golmar for millennia to come.
- Bio-Augmentation: At some point after trading with other races in their home universe, the HVF at some point gained access to genetic engineering, especially studying Combine technologies. But this was only for strict regulations genetic conditions such as mental state, repair loss limbs, organs, even broken bones, etc. It was taken serious to use it responsibly and never for selfish things, although had at times became more popular over plastic surgery for safer and healthier alterations, only for medical purposes. This also became useful for humans to easily settle on alien environments. They were very careful to avoid creating superhuman soldiers at the time in fear something would go terribly wrong.
- This subject had came up on a sour note to the United Federation of Planets when discovering about it, even though they are from different realities it is something they made certain to avoid mistakes such as the Eugenic Wars that triggered this law.
- Childless Dystopia: During the Occupation the humans who were alive at the end of the Seven Hours War were the very last generations of humanity due to the Combines using a suppression field that prevented births outright. Obviously this does change over the course of the series but Golmar didn't start having kids until 15 years into the uprising and even then it was rare and continued to be rare up until the end of their civil war after booting out the Combines off their planet.
- Crapsack World: This version of Earth had been ravaged by a string of destructive randomly teleporting portal storms for two to three years after the Black Mesa incident leading to massive amount of Xen life being introduced to the planet, nearly wiping out Earth's native ecosystem while also killing off a good quarter of the population of the planet before humanity crambed itself into the relative safety of the cities, making them even more cramped then before as the Xen creatures made living in the country side next to impossible without many precautions, and even then incursions of Xen life wasn't unheard of. That's ontop of the fact that practically all Earth's (surviving) governments being either in a state of martial law at best or a outright military dictatorship at worse as the obvious chaos of the storms and xen life introduction made every state on the planet extremely unstable and on the verge of collapse, and that's not even mention the states that did collapse as a result of the storms and xen life creating a MASSIVE refugee crisis that's not seen on many earths, even those dealing with the ramifications of Climate Change. And this only gotten worse once after the Combines invaded and conquered it in under seven hours and would occupy it under a brutal police-state that's slowly draining the planet of all its' worth. But good news is this eventually no longer the case after the uprising and the creation of the Human-Vortiguant Federation.
- Gaia's Lament: Golmar at the time of the invasion was being drained of all its' resources, including water, in fact, its' so bad that the planet's water levels dropped a full five meters, which is absolutely mind boggingly and something that shocked and horrified everyone who either seen Golmar at that state or heard of it. Obvious by the end of the war Golmar Earth is back to its' pre-black mesa incident days as far as enviroment, wildlife and water levels are concerned.
- Heel–Face Turn: A common theme that happened during the uprising among Civil Protection forces, especially those who were either coerced into it or were desperate enough to become the Combine's enforcers, once the Combine rule began to collapse, many of them defected to the Resistance and fought alongside them against the Combines, though usually keeping their old gear but modified enough to show their change of allegiances.
- The Mole: The Resistance did this in every level of the occupation that they could managed, with most of it taking the form of the Civil Protection infiltration, and once the uprising began in earnest these spies stopped their work entirely and fought along side their fellow resistance members in the streets, (which would caused the Combines to have Civil Protection units made up entirely of TransRace Combines instead of being recruited from local populations) though there are some examples of TransRace Combine soldiers also serving this but largely without either side being aware they were doing this.
- Mole In Charge: Surprisingly the Resistance did manage to get a few of the Sub-administrators (Effectively mayor-governors of each of Golmar Earth's numbered cities with City 17 being viewed as the capital and Breen's personal dominion) and used their positions to aid the Resistance in any way they could.
- The Mutiny/The Coup: During the Uprising, a number of cities were seized by the Resistance not through force of arms but through their agents on the inside tricking or infiltrating the city's ranks enough to force loyalists out without throwing the city into a battle, though these sorts of events were rare and not all that common place.
- The Remnant: Quite a number of Earth's military, police, and other government agencies continued to fight the Combines even after the capitulation of Earth after the Seven Hour War, but they were rarely affictive and more isolated from the Combines themselves only taking minor attacks on them every once and a while. By the time of the Uprising, most of the Remnants either dissolved or were destroyed, with the forces and or survivors leaving to join any of Golmar Earth Freedom Fighters cells and bringing with them any equipment they managed to salvage as well.
- The Quisling: Aside from Breen, most of the planet's sub-administrators were this and they vary widely as to what they did pre-war
- Vichy Earth: Golmar Earth was effectively this post war and often used as a example in universe of the varying degrees of how awful a Combine occupation could be with Golmar Earth being viewed as being some of the worse in terms of awfulness yet still not as bad as the top three worse types of occupation a planet/galaxy could have under the Combines's rule, though its certainly hold the number four spot.
