The United Nations (UN) of Golmar Earth were an worldwide assembly of nations on the universe's version of Earth from the mid-20th century to the early 21st century. The United Nations were formed at the end of the Second Golmar Earth Civil War in 1945 Golmar (1283 NE) to instill a lasting peace and prevent the outbreak of a third global war, especially with the escalating threat of nuclear weapons.
The UN came to encompass almost every nation on Golmar Earth in a relatively stable and civil assembly and served as the de facto government of the planet and Golmaran Humans. While they could not prevent minor wars, they still remained able to prevent a world conflict and supply aid to struggling, war-torn, or underdeveloped countries under its vast wings, which the UN was further empowered as a result of the chaos that the Portal Storm Surge brought to the planet in the months after the Black Mesa Incident in 2006 (1344 NE) although paradoxically was weakened as well due to the collapse of much of the planet's global south from a combination of the storms themselves and the non-native Xen animal life brought to the planet, most notably the Headcrabs, Antlions, Houndeyes, and Bullsquids. However, the UN, along with all nations on Golmar Earth, would meet their swift end and collapse during the Seven Hour War, which saw the invading extrauniversial Empire of the Combine Race massacre the planet's defenders and annex the world, igniting the First Multiverse War.
The UN enabled Dr. Wallace Breen's negotiations of surrender to the Combine as their final act before completely capitulating and being dissolved. The UN ultimately failed at its goals to protect Humanity, and Golmar Earth would suffer fifty years of brutal occupation and environmental devastation, as well as a civil war, before peace finally returned. It would have a spiritual successor in the Human-Vortigaunt Federation, and eventually the Commonwealth of Golmaran States.

Without any hint of oncoming, the already crippled UN nations would face a final, ultimate threat they were not prepared for in the form of the Empire of the Combine Race, a multiverse-spanning empire that had taken notice of the universe an decided to invade it. Combine armies flowed relentlessly through the wormholes and portals around the planet in droves, landing on every continent and immediately beginning their assault on the nations of Earth.
The invasion came to be known as the Seven Hour War, as all of Earth's defenses collapsed within seven hours, no match for the superior Combine invasion force. The United Nations' own headquarters in New York City was razed by the invaders, along with almost all of New York City.
Every nation on the planet was overrun and occupied by the Combine, and resistance was brutally and swiftly stamped out. When scientist Wallace Breen revealed he had found a way to communicate the Combine, the UN's final action was to orchestrate a formal surrender through Breen. This would be their final action before the UN collapsed and dissolved, along with all of its member states. Earth would be placed under Combine military occupation.
