Vanitas, also known as The Masked Boy, was a Keyblade wielder from the Malica Universe, Master Xehanort's apprentice, Ventus Tormentum' dark embodiment, the progenitor of the Unversed, and Sora’s evil counterpart/"brother". Created when the being Darkness was extracted from Ventus's heart; he is also the source of the Unversed, and later, a member of the real Organization XIII. Upon the return of his old foes, he fought against them until he was ultimately defeated by Sora.

Much of his backstory similar to his prime counterpart of his creation, in the event of the rise of the Empire of the Heartless from the Malica Universe he joined forces with them with Xehanort Cheirismos as emperor alongside his rival/associate Maleficent to rule alongside.
